Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered a significant quantity of ammunition in Taraba State.
The arrests were made on Thursday during a routine stop-and-search operation at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari. The operation took place along the Wukari–Ikyaior road within Wukari Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the brigade’s acting spokesperson, Lt. Umar Mohammad, the suspects were intercepted while riding a motorcycle. They were identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, from Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Troops also recovered N29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, and other personal belongings. The motorcycle used to transport the items was also seized.
The army confirmed that the suspects and the recovered items are currently in custody, with investigations ongoing to determine the origin and intended use of the ammunition.
Reacting to the development, the Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, praised the troops for their alertness and swift action.
He added that the operation is in line with directives from the Chief of Army Staff aimed at tackling criminal activities and strengthening security across Taraba State.
