Residents of Lafia Local Government Area in Nasarawa State have expressed frustration over the prolonged abandonment of the Lafia–Agyaragu Tofa road project, nearly eight years after the contract was awarded by the state government.

The road project, estimated to cost about ₦865 million, was approved in 2017 to construct a six-kilometre route linking Lafia with nearby communities including Agyaragu and Tofa. At the time, residents welcomed the initiative, hoping it would improve transportation and boost economic activities in the area.

However, the project remains incomplete years later, leaving commuters, traders and residents to navigate a severely deteriorated road.

Many locals say the poor condition of the route has made movement increasingly difficult, particularly during the rainy season when large sections of the road become muddy and almost impassable.

In response to the worsening situation, some residents have resorted to temporary repairs by filling potholes with bags of sand in an effort to make the road usable.

Community members also noted that the abandoned project has worsened transportation challenges in the area and slowed daily activities.

They further expressed concern that the condition of the road often delays emergency trips to the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital, raising fears about the safety of residents who rely on the route to access healthcare, markets and schools.

The residents are now calling on the Nasarawa State government to urgently resume and complete the project to ease transportation difficulties and improve living conditions in the affected communities.
