The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has strongly condemned an attack on its members in Ruwan Bago ward, located in Rogo Local Government Area of the state.
According to the party, the incident occurred during an event marking the defection of a prominent politician from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the NNPP.
The party alleged that the attack was carried out by individuals linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a claim that has heightened political tensions in the area.
In a statement issued by the NNPP’s publicity secretary, Ibrahim Karaye, the party described the incident as unacceptable and called on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation.
Karaye said at least 11 party members sustained injuries during the attack. He also revealed that two vehicles were damaged in the incident, including one belonging to the politician who defected to the NNPP.
In addition, several mobile phones were reportedly stolen during the disruption, further escalating concerns about the safety of political gatherings in the area.
The NNPP spokesperson urged security authorities to take decisive steps to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Karaye also called on the APC and its leaders to refrain from actions that could fuel political tension, emphasizing that opposition remains a vital part of a healthy democratic system and should not be undermined through violence.
