A Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sunusi Khalil, has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) planned to spend about N500 billion to mobilise Islamic scholars and traditional rulers across northern Nigeria in support of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Khalil made the claim in a video circulated by Rigasa TV News, where he said he was personally approached to take part in the initiative but declined the proposal.
According to the cleric, those behind the alleged plan intended to use religious and traditional leaders to shape public opinion and rally political support for the ruling party as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections scheduled for January 16.
He alleged that the organisers had earmarked a large budget for the effort, which he said would be used to mobilise Islamic clerics and traditional rulers to campaign in favour of the party.
“They have budgeted N500 billion to mobilise Mallams and traditional rulers so that they can campaign for them,” Khalil said in the video.
The cleric added that he was invited to join the project but rejected the offer and cautioned those who approached him against bringing such proposals to him again.
Khalil further claimed that a person within the government contacted him regarding the alleged arrangement, but he refused to cooperate with the plan.
As of the time of filing this report, the All Progressives Congress had not issued any official response to the allegation.
