The Imo State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has inaugurated a new interim executive committee as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Chigozie Ekeogu was announced as the interim chairman of the party in the state, alongside other members of the newly constituted executive team. The leadership is expected to oversee the party’s activities and strengthen its structure ahead of upcoming political contests.
The interim executive has been tasked with mobilising members across the state, including driving membership registration and expanding the party’s presence in all 27 local government areas of Imo State.
Speaking during the announcement, the SDP National Youth Leader and immediate past Imo State Chairman, Ifeanyi Henry Eluwa, said the move was aimed at repositioning the party for effective participation in future elections.
Eluwa noted that the new leadership would guide the party through its congresses and ensure readiness for electoral engagement, adding that the SDP remains committed to its core principles of social justice and good governance.
He also referenced the legacy of the late MKO Abiola, stating that the party’s ideology is rooted in the same principles that defined Abiola’s campaign during the annulled 1993 presidential election.
According to Eluwa, the SDP stands out as a stable and democratic political platform without internal divisions, which he said places it in a strong position to reshape the political landscape in Imo State and beyond.
