A group known as Working People United (WPU) has expressed strong support for the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu, stating that the reforms will help build a sustainable and stronger Nigeria in the long term.
The group also pledged to mobilise millions of Nigerian workers across various sectors in support of the president’s re-election bid.
Speaking during the official unveiling of the group on Friday in Abuja, the Interim National Coordinator of WPU, Comrade Williams Akporeha, said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has introduced bold economic reforms aimed at repositioning the country for long-term growth and development.
Akporeha noted that although some of the policies introduced by the administration are tough, they are necessary steps required to strengthen the Nigerian economy.
“Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, President Bola Tinubu has taken bold and decisive steps to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and shared prosperity,” he said.
“The reforms and policies introduced by this administration demonstrate courage, foresight and commitment to building a stronger Nigeria.”
He further stated that the administration has recorded several achievements aimed at improving the welfare of workers and ordinary citizens.
According to him, beyond wage adjustments, the government has also introduced various initiatives designed to cushion the impact of economic reforms on vulnerable Nigerians.
Akporeha explained that Working People United was created to help enlighten Nigerians about the reforms and promote constructive engagement between citizens and the government.
“Working People United stands as a platform to enlighten Nigerians about these reforms, promote constructive engagement between government and citizens, and advocate policies that will move the nation forward,” he said.
“Our goal is to mobilise millions of workers, artisans, traders, farmers, professionals and everyday Nigerians to support the continuation of policies and programmes designed to rebuild our economy and strengthen our national institutions for a greater Nigeria.”
He added that the movement was established with a patriotic mission to unite Nigerians across different sectors in supporting leadership that prioritises national development, economic stability and the welfare of the people.
Also speaking at the event, former Nigerian Ambassador to Madagascar, Mauritius and Mozambique, Ambassador Yamaha Osemobo, said he joined the group because of its commitment to promoting the policies of President Tinubu, which he described as beneficial to Nigeria’s development.
