The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, made emphasis that declaring of assets should be a basic obligation for all public servants in Nigeria. According to him, no public officer can justify failure in complying with this constitutional requirement.

Speaking during a meeting with top officials of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), South-East zone, Governor Otti directed that all officials mandated to declare their assets must do so promptly. He further stated that both he and his deputy had fully declared their assets before assuming office.

The Governor stressed that all political appointees and civil servants in Abia State are legally obliged to comply with asset declaration rules. “When I hear that some individuals have not visited the office or complied, it is surprising,” he remarked.

Governor Otti further instructed the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Emmanuel Meribole, to coordinate with relevant authorities to ensure full compliance by all public officers.

Earlier, the Zonal Director of the CCB, Mr. Akinfolarin Feyishola, requested the Governor’s support in educating Abia’s public office holders on the importance of timely asset declaration.
