The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed the arrest of four suspected bandits within the vicinity of Akure Airport following a coordinated security operation.
In a statement issued on Sunday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, said the suspects were apprehended after security agencies responded to a distress alert about suspicious movements near the airport.
According to the authority, the individuals were spotted behind the airport perimeter, close to the Eleyewo community in Ondo State, prompting an immediate joint security response.
FAAN explained that personnel from its Aviation Security unit, alongside operatives of the Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Police Force, carried out a coordinated search operation in the area.
The authority said the swift intervention by the combined security teams led to the successful arrest of the four suspects.
FAAN also noted that local security groups in the host community assisted the agencies during the operation.
The aviation authority reassured passengers and residents around the airport of its commitment to maintaining strict safety and security standards across all airport facilities.
It added that collaborative security efforts with other agencies would continue to ensure the protection of airport infrastructure and the travelling public.
