Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested a suspected notorious commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) believed to be a key member of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) during a security operation in Enugu.

Security sources said the suspect was apprehended following an intelligence-led operation carried out by DSS operatives aimed at dismantling criminal networks linked to violent activities in the South-East region.

According to the sources, the arrested suspect is believed to have played a major role in coordinating attacks allegedly attributed to ESN operatives across parts of the region.

Authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb insecurity, armed attacks and other violent incidents affecting communities in the South-East.

The DSS reportedly recovered several items during the operation, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the network.

Security officials noted that the arrest represents a significant step in the government’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.

The Department of State Services has not yet issued an official statement detailing the full circumstances surrounding the arrest, but sources say the suspect is currently undergoing interrogation.

Meanwhile, security experts say intelligence-driven operations remain crucial in tackling insurgent groups and criminal networks operating across various parts of Nigeria.
