BBA Motors Nigeria has officially unveiled the Zeekr 9X in Lagos, marking the first time the premium electric vehicle has been introduced in Africa.

The launch signals a new chapter for luxury electric mobility in Nigeria and positions the country as a potential hub for next-generation new-energy vehicles in West Africa.

The Zeekr 9X is a flagship electric SUV that combines advanced electric drivetrain technology, intelligent driver assistance systems and luxury design. As part of the launch, BBA Motors opened a new intelligent flagship showroom in Lagos, where the company also hosted the first exclusive offline preview of the Zeekr 9X in Nigeria and delivered the first unit of the vehicle nationwide.

The event attracted business leaders, industry stakeholders and media representatives, including Nigerian music star D’banj, who received the first Zeekr 9X delivered in the country.

Other notable attendees included Oyebanji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, former Director of the Regional Office for Africa of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme.

Company Strategy and Market Expansion

Speaking at the event, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of BBA Motors, Rebecca Jia, said the company’s mission in Nigeria is to bring globally competitive Chinese automotive technology to local consumers while providing localized services.

She noted that the Lagos showroom represents a major milestone in the company’s brand expansion strategy and its entry into the high-end new-energy vehicle segment.

According to Jia, BBA Motors plans to provide a wide range of vehicles in Nigeria—from daily commuter models to premium luxury vehicles—while offering fleet procurement, leasing, maintenance and other mobility solutions for corporate clients and ride-hailing platforms.

Zeekr’s Global EV Expansion

The Zeekr brand operates under Geely Holding Group and has gained global attention for its advanced electric vehicle technologies and intelligent driving systems.

At the Lagos event, product experts highlighted that the Zeekr 9X showcased was specifically optimized for African conditions, including Nigeria’s road networks and high-temperature climate.

The model features an electric battery system with a range of up to 560 km on a single charge and supports ultra-fast charging technology capable of adding significant driving range within minutes.

Growth of Electric Mobility in Nigeria

The arrival of the Zeekr 9X highlights the gradual expansion of electric vehicles into the Nigerian automotive market as investors and manufacturers explore opportunities in sustainable transportation.
