Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ardo Zubariu and Chinsom Nwakanma, have praised the Igbo community in the nation’s capital for what they described as a decisive contribution to the party’s victory in the 2026 Federal Capital Territory Area Council Elections held on February 21.
In a joint statement released on Saturday, the two party leaders said the level of support shown by Igbo residents in Abuja played a major role in the ruling party’s performance at the polls.
According to them, the APC would not have secured victories in five area council chairmanship elections without the strong backing of the Igbo community in the Federal Capital Territory.
They also commended the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, for his leadership and mobilisation efforts during the election period.
The APC chieftains said Kalu’s engagement with residents of South-East origin in Abuja helped galvanise support for the party’s candidates across the councils.
“We sincerely appreciate the South-East residents in the FCT for standing with the Deputy Speaker and supporting APC candidates during the election. Their solidarity and participation played a vital role in the successes recorded by the party,” Zubariu and Nwakanma stated.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared APC candidates winners of the chairmanship seats in Abuja Municipal Area Council, Bwari, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won the chairmanship election in Gwagwalada, according to the electoral commission’s official results.
