The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured party members and Nigerians that its 2026 National Convention will set a new standard for future political conventions in the country.
Chairman of the APC 2026 National Convention Planning Committee, Aminu Bello Masari, gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja after the committee held its inaugural meeting.
Masari said the committee is committed to organising a transparent, credible and hitch-free convention that would strengthen the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the expectations of both party members and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are high, and the committee is determined to deliver a successful convention.
“The expectation of Nigerians, the party faithful and the President is that we should produce the best convention ever,” Masari said.
“The expectation is also that we should set a template for future conventions in the APC, and with the calibre of people in this committee, this expectation is almost assured.”
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives further assured party stakeholders that the committee would maintain fairness and objectivity in its work to ensure that the party emerges stronger and more united.
He added that the committee would collaborate closely with the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and other relevant organs of the party to ensure effective coordination in the planning and execution of the convention.
The meeting was attended by several prominent political figures including former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim, who serves as Vice Chairman of the committee, as well as the Governor of Yobe State Mai Mala Buni, who is the committee’s secretary.
Also present were Abba Kabir Yusuf, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris Malagi, and former Director-General of the Budget Office Hadiza Bala Usman, among other members.
Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has approved the formation of various sub-committees to facilitate preparations for the convention.
Party officials say the establishment of the sub-committees is aimed at ensuring a credible, transparent and well-organised national convention.
