Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has intervened in a dispute involving the Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government Area (LGA), Mr. Anthony Nwaubani, and one of his councillors. The action follows allegations that the councillor’s salary has been withheld since December 2025.

The Local Government Chairman is also accused of confiscating a solar-powered streetlight intended for Oboro Ward 2 in Ikwuano LGA. Governor Otti addressed the issue during a media briefing at the Government House in Umuahia, confirming that he is aware of the situation.

He stated that he has instructed the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Uwaoma Ukandu, to work alongside Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Monday Ubani to resolve the matter amicably. “I am aware of the situation in Ikwuano Local Government and have directed that the Commissioner for Finance and SAN Monday Ubani sit down to find a resolution,” Otti said.

The governor assured residents that those tasked with resolving the issue would implement a lasting solution, emphasizing the state government’s commitment to fairness and accountability in local governance.

Officials involved are expected to meet promptly to ensure the councillor receives owed payments and that community projects, such as the solar-powered streetlight, are restored.

The intervention highlights the state government’s proactive approach in addressing alleged administrative lapses at the local government level.
