The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Alex Otti over what it described as indirect support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting such backing should not be communicated through intermediaries.

The party also claimed that the governor’s chances of securing a second term in office are less than 30 percent, citing what it called political realities in the state.

In a statement issued on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the APC was reacting to remarks by a member of the House of Representatives, Ginger Onwusibe of the Labour Party. Onwusibe had reportedly stated that Governor Otti would deliver Abia’s votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Responding, the APC alleged that the development reflects what it termed “desperate political survival strategies” within the governor’s camp. The party accused Otti of avoiding a direct declaration of support for the president.

According to the APC, the governor has instead chosen to rely on proxies to communicate his alleged alignment with Tinubu, a move it described as both deceptive and politically motivated.

The statement further asserted that the governor is aware of the challenges facing his re-election bid, maintaining that his prospects remain weak despite what it described as attempts to shape public perception through social media.

The party added that any sudden expression of support for Tinubu should be viewed with caution, arguing that it may be driven by political expediency rather than genuine alignment.

Reaffirming its own strength, the APC said it has the capacity to deliver up to 90 percent of votes in Abia State for President Tinubu in the next election cycle.

The party urged the president to disregard what it called misleading political overtures and instead rely on the APC’s established structure and support base within the state.
