World football governing body FIFA has sanctioned both Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Congolese Football Association (CFA) for separate disciplinary breaches during their 2026 World Cup play-off encounter in November 2025.

According to FIFA, Nigeria was penalised over incidents related to order and security during the match, specifically involving spectators throwing objects inside the stadium.

Following the ruling, the Nigerian football governing body was fined 1,000 Swiss Francs for the violation.

The disciplinary action was issued under the provisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, which sets out rules governing conduct during international football matches.

Meanwhile, the Congolese Football Association received a heavier sanction from FIFA after fans were found to have used laser pointers and similar electronic devices during the game.

FIFA said the action contravened Article 17.2.d of the disciplinary code, which prohibits the use of objects that could interfere with players, officials, or the conduct of a match.

As a result, the DR Congo football body was fined 5,000 Swiss Francs for the offence.

The sanctions come as FIFA continues to enforce strict measures aimed at maintaining safety, discipline, and fair play during international competitions, including qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
