Police Arrest Eight Suspects Over Motorcycle Theft, Fraud and Other Crimes in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has arrested eight suspects linked to motorcycle theft, fraud, and other criminal activities across different parts of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, said the arrests followed intelligence reports received on March 6, 2026, which led operatives to a suspected criminal hideout along Jebba Road in Mokwa.

Abiodun explained that on March 8 at about 5:30 p.m., a patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer in Mokwa arrested a 35-year-old suspect identified as Yahaya Alh. Nma. During the operation, officers recovered three Bajaj motorcycles and one TVS motorcycle believed to have been stolen.

Further investigation by the police led to the arrest of three additional suspects: Abdullahi Usman, 35; Idris Mohammed, 40; and Mohammed Ndako, 27. According to the police spokesperson, the suspects allegedly confessed to stealing several motorcycles in Mokwa and its surrounding areas.

The police said efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang and recover more stolen motorcycles believed to be in circulation.

In a separate incident, the police arrested a 42-year-old man, Yahaya Mohamed, from Bayagi in Bida, for allegedly impersonating a police officer to defraud phone repair shops. Investigators said the suspect obtained phone screen repair services without paying, accumulating unpaid bills totaling ₦32,500 in two incidents earlier this year.

Abiodun added that another suspect, Abubakar Lawal from Dzukogi in Bida, was arrested on March 3 for allegedly stealing a goat from a sawmill area. The suspect reportedly admitted that he intended to sell the animal.

Meanwhile, in Suleja, police operatives arrested two suspects, Abraham Pius Agada and Moses Ochapa, both from Masaka in Nasarawa State, on March 6 for allegedly using fake debit alerts to purchase five one-litre cans of engine oil valued at about ₦20,000.

The suspects reportedly confessed to carrying out similar fraudulent transactions in Keffi, Nasarawa State, and Suleja. Police also recovered a Toyota Corolla with registration number ASH 972 SK and more than a dozen engine oil cans believed to have been obtained through the fraudulent
