The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, William Folorunso Kumuyi, has urged political leaders in Nigeria to prioritise the welfare of citizens by implementing policies that will reduce the suffering of the people.

Kumuyi made the call during a courtesy visit to the palace of Kelvin Anugwo, the Eze Ekpeye Logbo III of Ekpeye Ethnic Nationality, in Ahoada, Rivers State, ahead of a global crusade organised by the church in the area.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Kumuyi stressed that elected leaders have a responsibility to improve the lives of Nigerians and ensure that government policies positively impact the people.

“My message to the nation is that leaders should think of the people first,” he said. “The politicians were elected so they can be a blessing to us. They should remember why they were elected and work towards relieving the people from the problems and challenges they face.”

He expressed confidence that political leaders have the capacity to deliver on their responsibilities, adding that members of the clergy are praying for divine guidance and support for the nation’s leadership.

Kumuyi explained that his visit to the Ekpeye kingdom was part of efforts to enlighten residents about the message of salvation and the sufficiency of Jesus Christ.

He revealed that the theme of the upcoming crusade is “The All-Sufficient Jesus,” emphasising that Christ is capable of meeting all human needs including spiritual, emotional, social and material needs.

“A king comes and we share our hearts together because we have the same goal,” Kumuyi said. “I want to be a blessing to the people of this kingdom, and the king, as the leader here, also wants the same for his people. Together we will share the message of the sufficiency of Christ.”

He added that Christ, whom he described as the “King of kings,” desires that everyone should experience fulfillment and divine provision in their lives.

In his remarks, the traditional ruler, King Kelvin Anugwo, said the community had witnessed improved peace since Kumuyi previously held a global crusade in the kingdom.

According to the monarch, the prayers offered during the earlier crusade contributed to restoring calm in the community.

“We anchored our rulership in the hands of God, and since Pastor Kumuyi visited us there have been tremendous changes,” the king said. “At one time, people could not sleep peacefully because of security challenges, but things have improved greatly.”

He also disclosed that the community would soon unveil a new local security outfit aimed at strengthening peace and safety across the area.

The security initiative, according to him, will be officially launched next week as part of efforts to maintain stability and protect residents of the Ekpeye kingdom.
