The Abia State Police Command has announced the arrest of 226 suspected criminals in connection with 142 recorded monthly cases of various offences between January and April 2, 2026.
Danladi Isa, The State Commissioner of Police disclosed this on Thursday while briefing journalists at his office. He stated that many of the cases have been thoroughly investigated and taken to court, with several suspects already remanded in correctional facilities while others awaits trial.
According to the police chief, the Command handled 13 cult-related cases during the period, leading to the arrest of 23 suspects who have since been arraigned and remanded. He added that 32 weapons were recovered from these operations, while five additional cult-related cases are still under investigation by the police
Danladi Isa disclosed that the Command rescued several trafficked and stolen children, recovered 46 firearms of different types, and seized 16 rounds of ammunition. He noted that the police also succeeded in disrupting multiple criminal networks operating across the state.
He further emphasized that these efforts have significantly reduced crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, sexual offences, child trafficking, unlawful possession of firearms, and fraud in the state. The police also recovered stolen vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles, while several kidnapped victims were safely rescued.
